Summary
[edit]| DescriptionEmission nebulae in Cassiopeia.jpg |
English: Emission nebulae in the constellation Cassiopeia seen by the Northern Sky Narrowband Survey. In this false color image, doubly ionized oxygen ([OIII] at 500.7 nm) is mapped to red, ionized hydrogen (Hα at 656.3 nm) is mapped to green and singly ionized sulfur ([SII] at 671.7 nm and 673.0 nm) is mapped to blue. The brightest stars are added to visualize the regions contaminated by strong continuum light. (Aside from that, the image does not contain continuum light.)
The field of view is 16° × 11°. Equatorial center coordinates are RA=2h36m and DEC=63°. North is up. The yellowish nebulae in the image center are the W3/W4/W5 complex, consisting (from left to right) of the Soul Nebula (W5), the Heart Nebula (W4), and the Fish Head Nebula (W3). North (up) of these bright nebulae extends the W4 superbubble/chimney, and to the west (right) lies the largely unknown supernova remnant SNR G132.7+1.3 (blue and red). |
